Justice and solidarity in priority setting in health care. Identifying and discussing the ethical and societal issues in resource allocation

The publication builds on the results of a European workshop held in December 2012 in Brussels, as a joint initiative of the King Baudouin Foundation and the Belgian Advisory Committee on Bioethics.

The workshop brought together a diverse group of 30 experts, coming from a variety of backgrounds and with different perspectives, for a two-day programme.

Participants debated the merits and shortcomings of the Western model of healthcare service delivery, with the Belgian system serving as an example. The workshop focused on mapping the issues and challenges that lie ahead as society reflects on the complex issue of reimbursing healthcare services. The participants covered issues related to both substance and governance. This publication is intended to offer a good insight into these.
